This time it will be a little different. To prepare for the Yorktown Sprint and for a little change of pace we will be meeting at Yorktown Beach for the OWS. We'll have a quick safety brief and start swimming at 6PM. The course will be very similar to the Yorktown Sprint swim course except we will shorten it a little to avoid the fishing pier.
Be advised that the water in the York River is much deeper than what we usually swim in at the James River and the currents can be fast moving at times. We will have a safety person following up the last swimmer just in case but if you are not comfortable swimming in open water yet then you may not want to do this entire course. I can recommend an alternate workout for those who would rather swim in shallow water for safety reasons so just let me know if you're not feeling up to it. (Your safety is of utmost importance!)
I don't know the current water temperature but I'll try and get out there and get a reading in the next couple days and send out a follow up email. I am fairly certain however that the water is still chilly and I would personally recommend a wetsuit if you have one.
The first ride will be Saturday, May 10th at 8am. We’ll meet behind BikeBeat in Williamsburg (on Monticello Ave). The ride will be about 20-30 miles (with an option to do only 15 miles if you want), at a 15-18mph pace. We'll tailor the pace and the distance to which riders show up, so no one will get left behind.

Bike Beat at Kiln Creek Shopping Center in Newport News will be starting a 'B' level ride. The 40 mile ride will roll out at 0800 on Saturdays beginning April 5th from the Bike Beat shop. There will be several regroup points along the way so that nobody gets dropped. The goals of the ride are improved fitness and performance, proper paceline riding, and of course... fun!
